Quite possibly the best recipe on this page to date. Miso Croque Monsieur 😱 Literally die and go to heaven stuff right here. Cheese galore and a bit of miso to add that umami flavour, breaking down the richness ever so slightly. Plus the miso is good for follicular phase so 🤷♀️
Cook and prep time: 20 mins
- 2 slices of white crusty bread
- 1/2 tsp plain flour
- 2 tsp salted butter
- 1 tsp miso paste
- 100ml milk
- 50g gruyere, grated
- 1 slice of thick cut ham
1. Preheat oven and grill. Slice the bread and place on a lined baking tray. In a pan add the flour, 1 tsp butter and miso over a medium heat, whisk until it forms a paste. Add in half the milk and stir until thick, then repeat. Take the pan off the heat and add in 20g gruyere cheese, you should now have a thick and creamy sauce. Leave to one side.
2. Melt 1tsp butter and brush onto one side of the bread and repeat on the other slice. Butter side up, place under the grill for three mins until golden. On one slice of the bread layer half the gruyere, a slice of ham and then more gruyere. Flip the other piece of bread on top so that it’s now butter side down. Pour on the miso béchamel sauce, pushing it to the outer corners of the bread. Place under the grill for a further three mins, until starting to brown.
3. Serve up and enjoy fresh from the oven!
